You need to turn off Software Playthough (because it is passing the audio via software, there will always be an unavoidable delay). Whether you can achieve latency free monitoring depends on your hardware. Most USB audio devices have latency free monitoring if you plug your headphones ...

Software Playthrough delay [SOLVED]

old lap top died, it fought for a long time. Any way, I have forgotten how to adjust my settings for no lag on play thru.

... for the (hw: 0) choice to use. Any software playthrough will have latency, especially pulse, so you will hear yourself late. You probably got no delay monitoring in the mic, because that is hardware playthrough, so that is probably a better choice. Gale

"Fixed" my issue with the same clicks as you suggested. Yup , i can record and hear it, but as Im sure you knew, with about a 3 second delay "Listen to this Device" should have less delay than that, but it's still software playthrough rather than hardware playthrough. Right-click ...

... . To hear the USB input while recording, enable Transport > Software Playthrough, but this has unavoidable delay. To listen to a track in Audacity while recording a new one, enable Transport > Overdub (it should already be enabled) . Gale

You can delay playback of an existing Audacity track by adjusting "Audio to buffer" in the Recording Preferences. However this does not work with Software Playthrough when recording because that latency is at a fixed ...

I think the Hardware Playthrough is a legacy service no longer supported. Software Playthrough, with the delay, is the only service I've ever seen work. This is also why we recommend listen to the device rather than the computer, if you can. If you're set up for overdubbing ...
