If the delay is in the region of 0.5 seconds, then it due to "software playthrough" as described earlier. If the delay is a much smaller fraction of a second, then this is probably due to "latency". Audacity ...

... to enable playback of the microphone input. Do not select "software playthrough" in Audacity as you will hear the input with a long delay (half a second or so) before the sound comes out.

Koz, thanks for all the info bro! I will try to use what I understood as I progress, however the delay is approximately; 1/2 second, "crazy". I am new to playing lead guitar and brand new to Audacity and I'm using Audacity for practice only, I am not recording ...

... or so. The only way to fix this is to enable the software playthrough. This wouldn't be a problem except that the playthrough is significantly delayed and when doing a multi-track recording, this delay makes it nearly impossible to record. I know that the problem is only the playback on audacity ...
