If the delay is in the region of 0.5 seconds, then it due to "software playthrough" as described earlier. If the delay is a much smaller fraction of a second, then this is probably due to "latency". Audacity ...

Koz, thanks for all the info bro! I will try to use what I understood as I progress, however the delay is approximately; 1/2 second, "crazy". I am new to playing lead guitar and brand new to Audacity and I'm using Audacity for practice only, I am not recording ...

... or so. The only way to fix this is to enable the software playthrough. This wouldn't be a problem except that the playthrough is significantly delayed and when doing a multi-track recording, this delay makes it nearly impossible to record. I tried checking the box "Play new track while recording it" but I get the delay that throws me off I think you will find that "software playthrough" causes the delay. Software playthrough should be off (not selected) "Play other tracks while ...
