i am using stero headphones with mic attached with it Is that USB? Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O "Play other tracks while recording new one" = ON "Software Playthrough" = OFF - If this is on it could be the cause of the problem. You may be able to configure your microphone...

Sure. As long as you don't want to record the resulting composite. Windows machines don't make very good Digital Audio Workstations because of the delays. You don't notice them until you try to capture a multi-track performance and keep layering it. You can tune out "latency" in Audacity ...

Hey,
I did get the Hosa cable.
It is good.
there is the delay - software playthrough - however...
I dont know if that can be helped. supposedly there is a hardware playthrough on the Mac,
and on the PC as well if you set the correct volume controls.

Audacity Preferences > Hardware Playthrough. Restart Audacity.
If that fails, try software playthrough. That's more likely to work, but that's the one with the sound delay.

Your next question is how do you hear yourself playing with the already recorded track. You don't without external hardware. Macs do not support Hardware Playthrough and Software Playthrough has a serious delay in it.
