... behind the input signal (because the sound has to work its way through the computer and through Audacity before coming out of the speakers - the delay is usually around half a second but may be more or less).

... not following all of those connections. So normally, it's better if all of your monitoring goes through the mixer because there will be latency (delay) through the computer. If you need to, you can use splitters to send the mixer's output to the computer and also to monitors or a PA system, etc. ...

... How are you expecting to hear your iPad instrument while you play it? If the sound is routed through the computer, there will be a noticeable delay.

Plug your headphones into the scarlett solo.
Turn off "Software Playthrough" in Audacity.
Set Audacity to use the scarlett solo for recording and playback in the Device Toolbar.

(You may need to adjust the monitor switch and monitor level knob on the scarlett solo.)

If you enable Software Playthrough you can hear what you're recording through the selected Playback Device but there is always latency (delay) through the computer. You can adjust the Latency/Buffer Length but it sometimes gets tricky because if the buffer it too short you'll get glitches/dropouts. ...

What causes delay in recording on Audacity

... At 7 seconds, it starts recording with wave forms appearing. When I search on this subject, I get lots of posts about latency, but nothing on this delay in the start of recording. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it? I don't remember such a delay in my previous work on Audacity. ...
