... Preferences and deselect Hardware Playthrough and select Software Playthrough. Restart Audacity. Does that work? That's the setting with the heavy delay, but almost everybody supports it. That may be about the best we can do. Koz

... then you have Hardware or Software playthrough selected in Audacity preferences. Not everybody supports Hardware Playthrough but it's the best for delay and other problems. Software playthrough works everywhere, but it's always behind the performance sometimes by significant fractions of seconds. Koz

In my experience, Software Playthrough on Linux is pretty useless due to a huge amount delay, or it not working at all. If you're recording from a USB microphone then you're out of luck. If you're recording from a conventional microphone, - this is the basic set-up: ...

And just so we're crystal clear, Latency is the fixed (usually) delay between you singing live and the track played back to you for matching. You can adjust Audacity 1.3 to play, for example, the recorded file slightly early, so by the time your voice arrives ...
