Software Playthrough invariably causes a delay so that should be switched off.

How are you recording? Are you using a USB microphone?
What exactly do you mean "I need to hear myself as I'm recording"?

How do I Listen Live as I'm Recording

2-part problem recording vocal track over existing music

... and "Software Playthrough" checked. However I then get the echo I was warned about. 2. Also, no matter what I seem to do, there is a delay between what I'm hearing in the phones and the vocals. Any direction would be appreciated.

... the playback side of "Sounds" or similar in the Windows Control Panel and unmute the microphone. It may not work, but there should be no delay if it does. Gale

... try unmuting line-in in the playback side of the sound card. You can also use software playthrough in Audacity to listen, but that will have a delay. Gale
