Re: First chord in auto-accompaniment keeps repeating
The problem is resolved. Fynwill commented (24 May): "Your keyboard is putting out the unwanted background. I'm betting on the latter." He was right. I had forgotten that when the auto-accompaniment feature is selected, the keyboard takes on a SPLIT POINT. The default is key 54 (first F sharp below ...

Re: First chord in auto-accompaniment keeps repeating
I am submitting the early bit of 'Moon River' in MP3. It was just played on Yamaha keyboard PSR E413. An Alesis cable connects the keyboard output jack straight to the USB port on my compute (Win 7). You should hear the background bass being repeated. It seems to originate from the Record level mete...

Re: Can't hear playback on Audacity 2.0.1 on Win 7
I'd never heard of external soundcards, I'm living in the UK, I'll have to look into them. If they come in a caddy - I suppose they must do if they're USB, I mean you wouldn't have an uncovered card lying on the desk waiting for stuff to get spilled on it External USB sound cards/interface come in ...

Re: Can't hear playback on Audacity 2.0.1 on Win 7
this is a snippet of Richard Clayderman that sounded perfect on Windows Media Player AND VLC. As you'll hear, it now sounds like it was on a tape recorder and te tape got twisted in the mech., can thnink of no other way of describing it. And if I record my own stuff from QSE, it sounds exactly the ...

Re: Mix and Render
Note: I have always been curious what happens when you add sound to sound. Does adding a -10dB sound to another -10dB sound, does it remain -10dB? Is there an appropriate forum here to discuss? Thank you. Best, Jack When calculating with dB, one should transfer it back to the linear scale in order ...

Re: Time bar question for recording natural phenomena
If you zoom-in it will show milliseconds (or even more precisely). If it's really the tempo you're after, there's probably no good substitute for a human simply counting the beats for 30 or 60 seconds. There are some beat detection algorithms for music, but they aren't perfect and they would probabl...

Re: Case Study about DAWs (Query) - Only 4 questions help me
Everything Steve says is accurate, and a pretty succinct list. Personally, I just switched to using Audacity as my “DAW” for most things, including tracking, mixing, and effects. So it can be done, especially if you’re dealing entirely with recorded sounds instead of plugin-generated sounds. I still...

Re: equal loudness curves, plot spectrum, and dB levels
signal levels are frequently measure with reference to "full scale" (often written as dBFS. How this applies in Audacity is that the "full track height" is the "full scale" reference point. Thanks for explaining that. I have seen dBFS written a bunch of places, but I just kind of glossed over it. +...
