Update--went to my Manage Audio Devices menu in Windows 7, and under Recording there was an option: Show Disabled Devices. The invisible device that appeared was just what I needed, so I enabled it. I'm up and running on the new computer with Audacity.

Thanks. I'm not knowledgeable enough see what my computer offers. A little Roxio app records, but doesn't have Audacity's features.

I had a previous version of Audacity on Windows XP that recorded radio stations, streaming audio etc. from within the computer. Just got a new computer with Windows 7, and this new Beta version will only record from an external source when the microphone (webcam) is plugged in. Otherwise I get this ...
