Now, i know how to remove the vocals from tracks using the split track/mono/invert proceedure, however i would like to do the exact opposite, ie, be left with the vocals and lose everything else. Thanks for your help gale. It works ok for me today thank goodness. I did a trace route thing yesterday and my connection was timing out at a san jose server for some reason, curses to wireless 3g internet!

The phono input is all fine as the sound is perfect when i am playing the records as usual, its the output from the amp to the computer that is causing the problem (i think) as the playback that has been recorded is bad, as mentioned above. I changed it to 16 bit and 44100mhz but it is still doing the same thing. I have also given the pc a good spring clean, virus scan, defrag, adware scan etc.. and it has made a very tiny difference but hardly noticeable really.
