Re: Mastering Freeware
Did I misunderstand the question? Yes you did, Koz. theeshaneomac, It depends on what you mean by 'Mastering'. I take that word to mean editing a bunch of tunes at once (compressing, limiting, EQing, fading in/out, etc) to make them sound like they belong together on a record. Audacity can do that ...

Re: Special files
Audacity won't change your original file at all unless you overwrite it. When Audacity imports a file, it makes a second copy of all the audio data in a proprietary format (it doesn't work with the WAV file directly, in other words). As far as I know, any "extra" data that isn't audio data...

Re: Automatic splitting of music track from audio cassette
Not really. You can record the Audio into Audacity and try to use Silence Finder to add flags between each track, then you could use Export Multiple. But the Silence Finder isn't perfect. Someone else may have more experience / luck with it.

Re: recording multiple tracks
Mr. Bill, I don't think muting any extra tracks will help, Audacity will still need to read all of that data from the hard drive in case the track is unmuted during playback or recording. The only way to free up resources is to reduce the number of tracks. Also, you can get around not having a bounc...

Re: Need help with recording!!!
Open Audacity, click Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O.
You probably turned off "play other tracks while recording new one." It should be ON.

Let us know if that helps or doesn't help. This problem if kind of baffling to me.Midnightlightning wrote:I've switched it so that's not the case; USB is only sound-in now, and the sound card has the line-out for the speakers, and I'll see if that makes a difference.

Pete, Ahhh, Shakespeare. I'm sure there's more to Stratford on Avon, but being from Chicago makes a day-trip rather unlikely. So that's all I know about your corner of the world. Rather than re-hash all this stuff here, I think this Wiki page should be able to help you out: http://audacityteam.org/w...

Re: Bit Rate Difficulty - Phone System Voice Recording
You've made a few typos, but I think I get what you're trying to say. You want 8-bit mono wav files at an 8KHz sample rate. When you hover over those files you will see that it's listed as 64 kbps. This is what it should say since 8000 (samples/sec) * 8 (bits/sample)= 64000 (bits/sec). You are getti...

Re: It cant access my sound device...
Any suggestions?? -pete Yes, 2: 1) Pressing play in Audacity will only playback a sound that's imported or recording in Audacity. If there's nothing there then you shouldn't be hearing anything. 2) I don't mean to be snippy, but you'll get much better help posting this in the Audacity 1.3.3 GNU/Lin...

Re: Chaning sample rates mid-recording?
We've been seeing more and more of this kind of odd sample rate problem showing up lately. I wonder why? Just a question, is your computer playing other sounds while you're recording (such as OS system sounds, or sounds from a different program)? I can see how that would throw it off, but it seems u...
