Re: Sector Boundary Errors (SBEs)

I think you're talking about the fact that CD-audio is divided into sectors and if you try to burn a CD with tracks that aren't exactly an integer multiple of sectors then you'll get little blank spots right at the end of each track (since the CD burning software fills the rest of the last sector wi...

Re: Chaning sample rates mid-recording?

You can try using Windows Sound Recorder to record some audio and see if it turns out alright. That should test the hardware, I think.

Also, even if you're using Cassettes, I would still record them at 44.1KHz. Recording at a lower rate would definitely be noticeable.

Re: Vista internal mic interferes with intended recording...

You've probably got the wrong input select in Audacity. Open Audacity and click Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O tab. In your Recording Device drop-down menu you should have Stereo Mix (or Sum, or Wav Out, etc). The name of that input depends on what your sound card driver is calling it, it varies f...

Re: Extracting Voice

Chris, Actually, the theory isn't on your side here. I don't think this kind of mixing can be done by adding / subtracting. It might theoretically be possible to write some code that would compare the left and right tracks and remove anything that is the same within them in order to get a vocal-less...

Re: Audacity keeps crashing out

Ugh, virus scanners. Norton Pro-fascism (aka antivirus) would certainly cause problems like that if it is scanning everything the Audacity writes to disc.

I hate virus scanners.

Re: Chaning sample rates mid-recording?

It's good that it works, but 22050 is a low sample rate, the quality won't be very good.

So, I think you've probably got a hardware problem, but there's no way to be sure without trying.

Re: Failed installation

You can try using Audacity 1.3.3. That seems to have worked for someone else. The two versions can be installed at the same time (they won't mess with each other).

I don't know of any other freeware like Audacity.

Re: Export to WAV... problems

That's really bizarre. The first thing to do is try using Audacity 1.3.3 (which can be installed at the same time as 1.2.6).

Does anyone know if Audacity uses any of the codecs that Windows knows about? I thought it supplied all it's own code to import / export to each format.

Re: Click Track

You definitely want Software Playthrough OFF. You should be monitoring the input through your sound card drivers, not through other software. I've already answered your question about latency, but I guess you're still having trouble. I think you've got a case of long recording latency. This is norma...

Re: a few questions...

1. I have been trying to download plug-ins for Audacity 1.2.6 and they are not being recognized in the program. I have Windows Vista, which may be the problem. If that is the problem can someone direct me to a site that has Vista compatible plug-ins? If Vista is not the problem I would like to know...
