Re: 4 Channels from Turtle Beach soundcard
At the time, I didn't have a use for more inputs, so I didn't worry about it. But I did eventually upgrade my sound card to a much nicer one (an M-Audio Delta 1010LT). With that card, I can record up to 8 mono tracks at the same time. So far I've only ever used 6 at once, but recording 8 does indeed...

Re: Importing sounds like chipmunks
Either that, or the sample rate is encoded in that file wrong (or in a non-standard way). Right click on the file in Windows Explorer and select Properties -> Summary -> Advanced. Somewhere here, Windows should tell you the sample rate of the file. Now import it into an empty Audacity Project and ma...

Re: Too much bass on exported MP3 files
Try exporting to wav temporarily, does that sound ok? I could of course make adjustments (equalisation and the like) in Audacity, but shouldn’t I get from the exported MP3 file more or less exactly what I hear from the Audacity output? More or less, yes. You should get an mp3 representation of the p...

Re: Cannot record on vista
The Sigmatel High Def is a popular sound chip, it can definitely record. There must be something funny with your drivers, or Windows has something else set as it's default sound card. I can't really say for sure, but it seems like an OS setup issue to me.

Re: Changing Pitch and Distortion
Just so you know, when you import an mp3 into Audacity, it's automatically converted to Audacity's native format, so you don't have to do any conversion yourself to work with it. The Change Pitch effect has limitations, and it won't work on every signal equally well. This is true of any Change Pitch...

Re: Echo - - not wanted
Open up Audacity and click Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O. I bet you have "Software Playthrough" checked. Make sure it's OFF. That should clear up the echo. A 60 minute, 63 Meg mp3? Sounds about right, if you have it set to 128kbps, stereo. You can cut that in half by making it into a mo...

Re: cant record properly
You definitely want to use the Line Input on your computer. The Mic input is low quality and most likely limited to mono instead of stereo. Do the recordings turn out at a normal volume, but when it's recording it sounds very low? If so, it sounds like you don't have your sound card driver software ...

Re: Problems when recording a DJ-set
That's odd. I can tell you for sure it has nothing to do with Stereo -> Mono conversion. Nor does it have anything to with your external equipment (provided you only hear this when recording). We're left with either your sound card / drivers, or Audacity. I'm biased, but I don't think it's Audacity....

Re: Clipping question
You can't really correct clipping, though there exists a Nyquist plugin that claims it can (I don't know what it's called or anything about it, but I've heard of it). In any case, your best bet is to re-record. You should find the loudest passage you can think of and set the recording volume so that...

Re: ultrasonic translation
I'm sure it would require only minor modification, but Audacity cannot currently generate a tone higher than 20KHz. There's also no function to multiply two signals, though this would also be very easy to implement. This sounds like a really great idea. But at the moment, the only software I know of...
