Re: Chorus & Instrumental plug-ins, or programs?

If you can find a VST chorus plugin that works in Audacity (many VST plugins don't, even with the VST Enabler), then that's your answer to question 1. Audacity (and the LADSPA plugins pack) doesn't currently offer a Chorus effect (I'm not sure why, it's a common effect, though overused if you ask me...

I hope so. But until we figure out the common factor between the computers that crash and those that don't it's impossible to say. But you're right, trying can't hurt.

Re: Clipping Audio Input Problem

I've noticed this happens when I use the M-Audio MobilePre USB here at work. But only if it's set to record in mono mode . I have no idea why this is, it's probably a stupid driver "feature." It records the full amplitude of each channel if I set it to record in Stereo. So, try setting you...

Re: Extracting audio from .flv video file

That's not audio being "bunched up" it's the sound of the compressed data converted to a PCM waveform. Audacity can't read those files. You'll need to find some other piece of software that can rip the audio out of it. This might work (I have no experience with it): http://www.batchconvert...

Re: persistent recording hum

Did you have the recorder plugged into the wall, or was it running on battery power only? Also, has this ever happened anywhere else? If it were plugged into the wall, you might have picked up ground loop hum or mains hum. If you can use Audacity to analyze the file, highlight a portion with only hu...

Re: Recording Phone calls

You need special hardware. You should also be aware that this might be illegal (caveat: I'm not a lawyer). This should work. You'll plug it into your phone line and then plug it into your Mic In on your computer. Set Audacity to record from the Mic In and it should work: http://spyville.com/record-p...

Re: Too much bass on exported MP3 files

Well, I still have a hard time believing the sound card is at fault here, but I do know that Audacity doesn't support ASIO drivers (for legal reasons, not practical reasons). I'm surprised it works at all, unless you recompiled Audacity to support the Steinburg code that they supply (which is legal ...

Re: Speed change - 96000Hz exported to 44100Hz

Using 1.2.6, I get the right output speed (and pitch), but the file has extra silence appended to the end of it (this is a known bug). You might be exporting wrong. Record at 96KHz (you'll know this from the info to the left of each track on Audacity's main screen). Then change the project sample ra...

Re: dell/vista can only record with microphone

Certainly Dell should not be using Sigmatel chips, but it's never been a foregone conclusion that people would be able to recording their speaker outputs. It's simply not an issue for the average computer user. If you disagree, then by all means go with a company that uses a different chip (in fact,...

Re: dell/vista can only record with microphone

How can you sell a computer in the 21st century that does not have the ability to record the speaker sound? Mix Vista and a cheap motherboard sound card. It's not a hard recipe, and almost every commodity computer maker is doing the same thing. It's not a problem with Dell, it's a problem with the ...
