Re: Too much bass on exported MP3 files

Oh man, this is wracking my brain. It seems like a longshot, but when you listen back to these mp3 files, are you always using the same program? Does that program have an EQ applied? If two different programs are causing the same problem, then that seems to reason that the playback is the problem. A...

Re: Replacing silence

By "0dB" I assume you mean silence (0dB actually means full blast in the audio world, following standard convention). Audacity has a silence detector, but I've never had great luck with it. I have no idea what kind of project you're working on, so this is just a shot in the dark: The best ...

Re: Audio in slow motion

dmarks, the Drivers for your M-Audio device allow you to change the sample rate of the card (at least, the drivers for my 1010LT do). While everything is working right, open those drivers and finding the sample rate settings (I can't remember which menu they're in, I'm at work). Take note of which s...

Re: Export grayed out

They're greyed out because you're in pause mode. Audacity limits what kind of things you can do while you're paused (I'm not sure why).

Press stop and everything should work.

Also, be sure you put a label at the very beginning of the track or you'll lose everything in front of the first label.

Re: Exporting Large .wav files

Aha! Check out this wikipedia article on wav files: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV I'll pull a quote from the "Limitations" section: The WAV format is limited to files that are less than 4 GB in size, due to its use of a 32 bit unsigned integer to record the file size header I'm really s...

Re: Two tracks: simultaneous listen and record

First off, there's no reason to add an empty track to Audacity when doing this. As soon as you click record, Audacity will create a new track to record to. It's impossible to record over a piece of audio using Audacity. If everything is set up right, all you should need to do is import the track you...

Re: Too Bassy

The odd thing is that if I record from the walkman directly into mp3 using MusicMatch Jukebox then everything is fine. I thought I'd try to do better by using Audacity, but this is the problem I have. And, as I mentioned earlier in the thread (or perhaps not, it's a while ago!) the volume automatic...

Re: Clipping Audio Input Problem

Audacity doesn't work that way. Remember it's a multi-track editor, not just a regular sound editor. You can press "pause" while it's recording and as soon as you un-pause the recording will carry on using the same track. But it's not possible to record over something that's already been r...

Re: Exporting Large .wav files

That 7.5GB size sounds just about right, I've never heard of anyone having this problem. Though I doubt too many people go around making 12 hour long wavs. Hmm... You aren't using the FAT32 file system, are you? The max file size there is 4GB. I'm not sure what would happen if you tried to write a f...

Re: Reverb lead in (I think)

It's called reverse reverb. Possibly made famous by Led Zeppelin (someone correct me, please). First, get comfortable using a reverb effect. If you aren't yet, I recommend Gverb (plenty of people will disagree with me). No doubt, Gverb is confusing, but hopefully this wiki page will help: http://aud...
