Re: length of song changed by mp3 export
How much has it changed? Every time an mp3 is encoded (or re-encoded) a small amount of silence is tacked onto the end of the file due to the way the mp3 algorithm works. This is unavoidable. Why are you working with mp3 files if you're making videos? Won't the audio just get data compressed along w...

Re: Error 2 (and Ensuing Chaos)
First, the Export function in Audacity pays no attention to whether or not a track is muted. So if you don't want a track included, you have to either remove it from the project, or highlight everything else and use Export Selection. This is annoying, I know. I hope it's changed in the future. Secon...

Nope, that list is built into LAME. The Audacity team has no control over it.

Re: Audacity keeps crashing out
You have two options for ASIO drivers. Most cards also come supplied with WDM drivers that you can use instead of the ASIO drivers. Alternately you can recompile Audacity yourself with ASIO support. This wiki page details how to get started with that (I wish I could, but I can't help you with that):...

Re: not recording anymore, system resources?
First, you should be using your Line In to record that from. But that's neither here nor there, putting a really big signal into a Mic In isn't going to hurt your card, or cause it to refuse to record. Second, if it's a PCI card, take the case apart and make sure the PCI card is seated correctly. If...

Re: Recording input drop-down menu not working
Audacity seems to be limited to using only one device at a time, so if your audio device doesn't support both playback and recording, then you're out of luck. So the problem is with your USB speakers. There might be a way to fiddle with the OSs settings to get it to work, but I've no experience with...

Re: To record/convert cassette to mp3 connections..
If that is the case, you'll have to go through the sound card driver software, but I would venture to say it's not likely. Your laptop manufacturer would be able to tell you for sure.

Re: missing sound
Open Audacity and click Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O. What do you have listed in the Playback Device menu? That should be set to whatever your sound card is calling itself.

Re: Wav merging, file size reduction: How to?
First, you have to use Audacity 1.3.3. The older versions don't support multichannel output. Unfortunately, Audacity yet doesn't support multichannel playback, so you'll have to use it strictly to make the wav file, but not to listen to it. Second, wav does support an arbitrary number of channels. I...

Re: Remove mains hum
Good work.
I have one small point to mention. Mains hum naturally has a number of harmonics, it's not a perfect sine wave. So your mains hum wasn't distorted.
