Re: length of song changed by mp3 export
It looks like your first file was encoded as joint stereo. I wonder if either Audacity or your video software is having trouble reading joint stereo files. Use Audacity 1.3.3 to re-encode the original file as Joint Stereo (Audacity 1.2.6 can't do this). The options are in different places in the two...

Re: problem with recording sounds comming out of my speakers
How is this a similar problem? pav, you need to select your input in the Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu. If you can't find the input you want to use, then you need to make sure it's activated in your OS's driver software: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using...

Re: length of song changed by mp3 export
I can't switch to 48000 because then it will be much longer than the video.. Uh.... why do you think that? It certainly shouldn't be. Though there is a bug in Audacity during sample rate conversions that adds unnecessary silence to the end of a track when moving from one rate to another. So you'll ...

Re: Clean Speech wiped out timer?
Actually, I think it's just a GUI edit designed to make Audacity easier to use.
By making it difficult to use.
I guess.

Re: Opening mpeg file to extract music
Two ways, easy way first: 1) Find a program that will rip the audio out of a video file. Maybe one of these will do it: http://www.allformp3.com/dvd-audio-ripper.html 2) Use Audacity to record the output of your sound card and play the video using different software. Also called capturing "stre...

Re: length of song changed by mp3 export
The number of samples and the length both went up. But I don't know why. It's 30,000 samples longer than the original. Normally we would expect to see ~1,000 extra samples, so this is not what I expected. When I do something like this, the second file ends up .026 seconds longer (26 ms). Could it be...

Re: slowing down tracks for editing
Can someone move this to the Audio Processing forum? There is no good way to do this in Audacity 1.2.6. But Audacity 1.3.3 allows you to slow audio down (or speed it up) arbitrarily. There is a second play button with a slider next to it, set that to the speed you want and press the second play butt...

Re: length of song changed by mp3 export
Ok, you might have a different problem here. The video world usually works with audio files at a sample rate of 48KHz. But the vast majority of audio files are at 44.1KHz. This would explain your syncing problems. You probably converted the mp3 to 44.1KHz instead of leaving it at 48KHz. Take the ori...

Re: Buddy laying down tracks: samples needed for study
Welcome to the enormous, complicated, and most of all awesome world of multi-track recording. First, any Audacity project of more than a few tracks is going to be quite large. There aren't many people who will pay for the bandwidth needed to put up a quality multi-track project. But there is one sub...

Re: Recording from cp
It depends on what you're trying to remove. If it's just hum, you might be able to use Audacity (I would recommend 1.3.3 for any Noise Removal you want to do). Here's the wiki page on Noise Removal: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Noise_Removal I should also tell you that transferring a...
