Re: Recording loses all sound

Yes, the temp directory and the My Documents folder to which I'm saving the files are on the same drive. Do you think this is causing the problem? No, this is how most people would have it set up (since most people only have one hard drive, I assume). I was hoping you were going to say something li...

Re: VO compression

I might be defining "Side-Chaining" incorrectly. Does anyone know the "correct" term for mixing a dry signal with a wet signal in this way? Wikipedia and a handful of links call this "Parallel Compression", but several other links call this "Side-Chain Compression....

Re: VO compression

Sorry, Lynn, I edited my first post while you were typing up your second. I don't think I edited much. Day off? Not in the small-company Toy industry. We don't get these mythical "days off" The Leveler seems to be a particularly heavy-handed compressor. It might well work out for you. It m...

Re: VO compression

And now you get to learn the most important thing about audio engineering. Nothing beats experience. In order for Compression to work to it's fullest, you need to first make sure your recordings are as clean as can be. This is imperative since Compression will raise the noise floor of a signal along...

Re: Recording loses all sound

I don't know exactly what's going on, and I'm not 100% sure the permissions are a problem. You really should be able to save a project, but I can't tell you why you aren't able to. Is your temp directory set up to be on the same disc you're trying to save to? Should I take that to mean I can save an...

Re: Importing from h4 Zoom?

It looks like that Zoom device saves everything as either mp3 or wav. So it should work. Just to make sure you're doing everything right: 1) Transfer the files from the Zoom to your regular hard drive (I'm not sure how to do this, but I think it's as easy as opening it in Windows Explorer and draggi...

Re: Recording mixes from turntables.

I can tell you that Audacity doesn't currently allow you to record from more than one input device at a time. I'm not sure if this is going to (or even can be) fixed in the future. As for other software, I don't know of any. I'm pretty sure WDM (Windows' sound card driver standard) doesn't allow thi...

Re: Low Volume

It looks like that mic is a dynamic mic, so you shouldn't need phantom power, but the only info I could find is from eBay, so are you sure you don't need phantom power for that mic? Applying phantom power to a mic that doesn't need it isn't dangerous. If that doesn't help (and I don't think it will)...

Re: Change tempo & burn new cd

You have two options, either use Winamp to do the tempo-shifting and use Audacity to record. Or use Audacity to do everything. The trade off is that if you use Winamp, your sound quality will suffer a small amount in the conversion process. But if Winamp's tempo-shift effect is better than Audacity'...

Re: Recording loses all sound

I record my voice, play it back with no problem, then save it as an audacity project file Something is going wrong when you save and Audacity Project, but I don't exactly know what. Try this real quick, record something short, make sure it plays back, and DON'T save it as an Audacity project. Now, ...
