Re: only imports 2 milliseconds

Tommy,

WMA is also not a supported format. I'm sure you can find a free WMA -> WAV converter somewhere.

Re: 8000 Hz 16 bit mono PCM wav file smaller than exported M

8KHz @ 16-bit mono comes out to 16KB / sec. That's a low quality file, but it's also very very small. Any mp3 version of the same file will be bigger unless it's set to 16kbps quality. That's the second lowest quality setting that LAME supports, I'd bet you're setting this number quite a bit higher....

Re: Nothing recording

The sound mapper is a microsoft program that you can access by going through your sound card setup software. It never actually calls itself the Microsoft Sound Mapper (which it really, really irritating). If you go back to this page again: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_I...

Re: Effects without changing source

Doing what you're describing would require the ability to process real-time effects. Audacity doesn't currently do this (even though many VST plugins support it). It takes a lot of processing power to do them, but it's something the developers are looking into (I think). You can always make a second...

Re: Changing bit rate: no effect on size

Were they mono when you imported them and stereo when you exported? That would explain it.

Also be aware that at a bit rate that low, the sample rate will change (this is the way LAME behaves, it's not an Audacity thing), so people might have trouble playing them.

Re: only imports 2 milliseconds

This is what happens when you import an audio file that Audacity can't read (usually it's an mp4, aka AAC or m4a).

You've got to convert that file to something Audacity recognizes

Re: Mixing Tutorial - General Methods

The reason it's best to record as high as possible (without clipping) is because of the concept of a noise floor . But the importance is often over-stated. First, I need to explain about dynamic range. The range of human hearing is ~120 dB for people with excellent hearing. Anything lower than that ...

Re: Inserting Track breaks

Also, you can't move a label once it's placed, so if you're a tiny bit off you'll have to go back and fix it later anyway. I agree with Waxcylinder, labeling is best left for the last step before exporting when doing this sort of thing. I doubt that it is going to cause any errors in the recording t...

Re: Joining files with batch processing

CrisChile, You've got a completely unrelated problem. You've saved an Audacity project without knowing what that entails (this is common, read about it here ). Use Audacity to open that project and use the File -> Export function to make a wav or mp3 (or ogg or aiff) file. If you don't want to edit ...
