Re: Help
John, You've got a few of misconceptions about the way Audacity works. When Audacity imports a compressed file it isn't actually reading the data directly from the file. Audacity converts all audio you import to it's own proprietary format (.au). Concepts like bit rate and file length only come into...

It's also possible that your Line In port is broken.
Either that or your Line In is actually a Mic In and can't record stereo.

reshik,
iTunes, perhaps?
You're probably not actually importing an MP3 file. This sort of thing happens when you import MP4 (aka M4A / AAC) or WMA files.
You'll have to convert those files to something Audacity can read before you can import them.

Re: removing letters (or find and remove frequencies)
The best and easiest way to fix it is to just buy or make a pop filter. I made one out of panty-hose and a bent up clothes hanger, it works just fine. Alternately, you can use the Spectrum view. Go to the Edit -> Preferences -> Spectrogram menu. Change the FFT size to 256 and the Min and Max frequen...

It's hard so say without knowing if that's a USB mic or a regular computer mic. Most likely you either have Audacity's recording volume turned down, or your OS's audio software has been changed without your knowledge (perhaps by plugging in a USB device).

Re: Cannot select stero mix
If you can't change the input on Audacity's main screen, then your drivers are to blame. This page goes over how to make sure all your inputs are enabled in either XP or Vista, there's also a grey box at the top explaining the difficulties with the Stereo Mix input: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/inde...

Sweet George Martin backs me up (or maybe I back him up).
But putting the vocals off-center certainly seems like it's an unwritten faux pas for some reason.

First off: I need to use the recording setting thnig line-in I think (which is what the computor is playing, reocrds what comes out of the speakers). This isn't true. Line In is one of the few well defined inputs in the Audio world. It will record whatever you have plugged into the Line In port on y...

Jeff,
Try opening up your PROJECT_NAME.aup file in a text editor. Does anything look funny at or around line 137?

Do you guys have the right playback device selected in Audacity's Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu? USB devices sometimes change the default selection and confuse Audacity.
