Re: Song editing question

I think csk is talking about typing the selection into the boxes at the bottom of the main screen.

You can click on those boxes and change their display format. Try HH:MM:SS + milliseconds. That will give you 1000 times more accuracy.

Re: new laptop, audacity doesn't work

First things first, make sure the MobilePre is NOT using ASIO drivers. I know the MobilePre is supplied with them, but Audacity can't be legally distributed with ASIO support (thanks to Steinburg). If that doesn't help, is this a Vista issue? Vista audio is still in a terrible state, but we've got m...

Re: Argh! How Can I Recover A Saved .mp3 That I Want To Cha

Audacity has unlimited undo, but only until you close the program. So if you've saved the file as it is and overwrote the original file, then undo is your only hope. But if you've closed Audacity since then, you're out of luck. Also, be aware that mp3s can't really play gaplessly (unless your mp3 pl...

Re: mid line stuck on +1 on vertical ruler-no sound recorded

It's either a problem with the sound card's hardware, or an incredibly bizarre driver problem. I suppose it could be an Audacity issue, but we can test that really easily. Just use Windows Sound Recorder to record something and load that file into Audacity. Is it still messed up? If you still get th...

Re: HELP ME PLEASE

Brian, Were you hoping to transfer each track individually so you can use Audacity to mix them? Or are you just trying to get the final mixdown onto your computer? Most likely, the only way to get audio from that thing to your computer is by using the Line Out to your computer's Line In and recordin...

Re: Cannot select stero mix

You're not the only person who's had that problem getting audio from a Youtube video.

For some reason my girlfriend's laptop cannot get audio from Flash programs like Youtube and Homestarrunner. I wonder if Flash is to blame.

Re: How do i make it so there is no pause between tracks?

For Windows users, I recommend Exact Audio Copy. It's a bit more complicated, but it's free and quite powerful. You can also use it to make CUE sheets so you don't even need to split up the album you're trying to burn. You can export a big wav file from Audacity and use the CUE sheet function to sep...

Re: I'm stupid, please help =]

I know, I was just playing along with your self-deprecation. I agree with your assessment of Vista, the way it handles Audio stuff is terrible. From what I can tell, the companies who are writing the drivers for Sound Cards in Vista have some unspoken agreement to remove the Stereo Mix function from...

Re: Removing Labels

Using the selection tool (I'm not sure if other tools work this way), click in the text box on the label you want to kill, then press Delete until it's gone. Once all the text is gone from the box, one more press of Delete will remove the label, so if you've got text in the box already, you'll have ...

Re: Unable to open target file for writing

I think Audacity is trying to create a "preferences" file (I'm not certain of where on the drive it's trying to do this). Most likely, the problem is that the student's username isn't allowed to create either the directory or file that Audacity needs to write. On my computer at home, Audac...
