Re: Sound interference and uneven tempo
Actually, that Knoppix idea is a good one. I'll have to remember that for particularly tough cases. One other thing to try is to use a different USB port (i.e. move to one in the back if you're currently plugged into the front, and vice versa). I once had a bad FireWire port that was giving me the o...

Re: Recovering lost audio files
nerraux,
You have to put the file in a .zip folder. In Windows you can make a compressed folder by right clicking in Windows Explorer and selecting New -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Re: Separate tracks in the mix?
Right, Steve. But that reminds me of one more thing. After the files are split at a CDDA frame, the first and last 10 milliseconds of each track should be faded in and out, since the likelihood of a zero crossing coinciding with a CDDA frame is quite small. Fading the first and last 10 milliseconds ...

Re: Giving Stereo Depth to Mono Tracks
I leave all the tracks mono and set the gain/pan settings individually. That makes the project files bigger, but you have more freedom. I also tend to pan the original slightly to one side and pan the delayed version further away from center on the other side, but it's not wrong to do it some other ...

Re: Separate tracks in the mix?
horror, you said: When I played it back there was still a gap there though. What program were you using to play the file back? Did you re-import them into Audacity and add them to the same track? If I do that I can't hear any glitches between the two files, but if I add both to Windows Media Player ...

Re: HELP! Recovering from crash
I think you're out of luck. If the project wasn't saved before Audacity crashed, it should try to get the temp files back, but it doesn't seem to work all the time. Also, the .au files are broken up pieces of the project (so Audacity never has to read/write more than 1 MB to a hard drive at a time)....

Re: problem playing something I made yesterday. HELP!
Yes, but "Error opening sound device. Please check the output device settings and the project sample rate." is a common error message that Audacity spits out if it isn't set to use the right type of device. I think ryan was trying to use Audacity to play something but Audacity is set to use...

Re: skype clobbers my recording!
It looks like Skype hijacked your sound card while Audacity was trying to use it. I don't know if there's a way around this other than making sure Skype doesn't start while you're recording. It might possible to set Skype up so it can't take over the Line In input, but I don't know about that, I hav...

Re: Audacity recording "slow"
For some reason the sample rates aren't matching up. Open up Audacity's edit -> preferences -> quality tab. Make sure the default sample rate is set to 44100 Hz (or whatever you want to use). This is the number that should appear in the lower left hand corner of Audacity's main screen while you're r...

Re: MIXER TOOLBAR ISSUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
However, when selecting the Mixer input to CD Player, it don't work. But while playing a CD, you have to reselect stereo-mix and it'll start recording the CD player. Odd that the record-bar has to sit at minimum to prevent distortion. The CD input isn't likely to work for anyone. It's a holdover fr...
