Re: How to record audiobook at home
I'm concerned about the noise from the computer, so won't I need a card at least, even if I use the USB? Not if you're using a USB mic. If you use a USB mic, the existence of another sound card or mic pre-amp won't make a bit of difference since the mic won't ever be plugged into either of them. It...

Re: Recording from synth?
Is it possible to record what I play on the synth directly into Audacity? Not if the only cable running from your synth to your computer is a midi cable. Remember that midi is not an audio format. It's more closely related to sheet music than it is to sound. Also, Audacity doesn't support the playi...

Re: Recordings are clipping. Any ideas?
OK, you're getting skips, not clips. It's happening as a result of your USB mic failing to constantly send data to your computer, or something is preventing it from doing that. Don't worry about your processor though, that's plenty fast for recording mono audio. If you can, update the drivers for yo...

Re: How to record audiobook at home
Actually, the Samson C01 comes in a USB version, the C01U. That would completely remove the need for the FirePod, since your audio will all be going through the USB port. But make sure you check the return policy on mics like that. I used the C01U once and it sounded nice, but the noise floor on tha...

Re: Audio From DVD - Adjusting Levels and Removing Clicks
Once the files are exported, both edits are permanent (aka destructive), so it makes no difference except that the Amplify effect can amplify in smaller steps. But if you're strictly working within an Audacity project, adjusting the gain slider is non-destructive. The Amplify effect makes a permanen...

Re: How to record audiobook at home
If you're looking to make a studio-quality recording, then the easiest way to do that is to go to a studio. It takes good equipment (which is expensive), a good quiet environment (which is probably expensive), and good audio engineering skills (which only come with practice). If you're not afraid of...

Re: records from optical-in too fast
What Steve says is more or less on the money, but I have a few tiny things to say. Higher bit rates improve the "amplitude resolution", and higher sampling rates improve the "frequency resolution". Higher sampling rate actually gives you greater frequency range, not resolution. I...
Re: Clicks
Steve, You're right, I was assuming a USB mic since clicking issues occasionally come up with those. But yeah, I think this person is using a regular computer mic. In that case, I would first point my finger at the sound card drivers, especially if you're using Vista (though XP is not without proble...
Re: Clicks
redsonja, First, try using a different USB port. Not all USB ports are created equal. Also try setting Audacity record to a low sample rate (in the lower left hand corner of Audacity's main screen, change the sample rate to 22050) and see if you can record without clicking. Failing that, we need a b...
