Re: silencemarker
I think all you'll need to do is put it in the plugins folder and then restart Audacity. It should show up in the Analyze menu (not the Effects menu). I can't say any more than that.

Re: pop noise when recording
Making Virus Checkers stop looking for .au files is a good idea. Those .au files are audio files and aren't executable so you can't get any viruses from them. The threat of computer viruses is way overblown. As long as you know what you're doing (and you keep your computer updated), you can avoid us...

Re: Display SPL vs time?
I think most SPL meters will allow you to make an unweighted measurement, but thanks for mentioning that, Steve. A-weighting and C-weighting will both throw off the measurements, I think. This stuff is a bit out of my area of expertise though, I haven't the money to do any acoustic treatments yet, I...

Re: Recording problem
You're trying to access the What U Hear input (aka Stereo Mix), but your drivers aren't offering it as an option. It's a problem with your drivers, this is common amongst Vista users. We have a wiki page detailing what you can try at first, the section labeled Control Panel Issues will probably be t...

Re: Display SPL vs time?
Wow, excellent post Steve. To answer the question about how to calibrate the SPL meter to Audacity, there is no way to get Audacity to spit out absolute numbers like that, so you'll always have to do the conversion yourself. But if you play some full amplitude pink noise (wear ear plugs, you'll than...

Re: How can they sell this on ebay.. what can be done about
It's perfectly legal to sell Audacity, provided a few basic legal requirements are met detailed here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=AudacityVendors#Advice_for_Vendors This eBay listing appears to fit all these requirements, though it's in very poor form to not make mention of it being...

Re: No Stereo
I recorded an album and everything went ok Are you sure of this? Did Audacity actually record a stereo signal? You could also listen back to file you exported from Audacity and see if that's in proper stereo. Also, I think it's possible that your stylus is misaligned and is only picking up a mono s...

Re: recording vinyl - auto stop after 1st track
There's also another thing we should note. Software Playthrough is almost never necessary, even if you want to listen to what you're recording (in the audio world, we call this "Monitoring"). Software Playthrough is Audacity's way of providing a Monitoring signal, but Audacity is not in a ...

Re: simple reverb?
Ahhh, Gverb, so misunderstood. It's ok, we get this question once a month or so. Gverb is both complicated and unintuitive, but also very useful. Thankfully, we have some very good documentation on it here: http://www.audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=GVerb If you don't want to read all that (th...
