Re: now here's a challenge - off-centre 45
That's wow (which is really just a slow form of flutter). As for whether or not you can fix it, here's a wikipedia blurb on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow_and_flutter_measurement#Flutter_correction It seems like this is a relatively new idea that they're currently trying to work out. So I don'...

Re: Separate tracks in the mix?
Horror, I think your best bet is to start using CUE sheets to make discs. It's much more elegant and you'll gracefully sidestep all of the issues you're running into: http://qed.qproject.org/tutorial.php Once you have a cue sheet, I use Exact Audio Copy to burn it: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/en/

Re: Automatic mic leveling? or Software-based commpression?
Oh, ok. The normalize function works just fine, what you're looking for is a Compressor. They aren't the same thing. An outboard compressor might be your best bet, but try using Audacity's built in compressor (or use Audacity 1.3.4's Leveler plugin, it's a very drastic compressor meant strictly for ...

Re: Recording problem
My best guess is that those drivers weren't meant for a card that old. But I can't say for sure. Creative has a bad reputation for sound card drivers.
Re: FTP?
Doesn't look like it exists in 1.3.4 (and I don't remember it from 1.3.3 either).
Most likely it was removed because it didn't work, but I have no proof. I'll send a message to one of the developers about this.

Re: Recording guitar (beginner) - lots of background noise
I then run from the line out of the four track into the mic jack in the front of the computer. No, bad Dave. Line level signals don't get plugged into the Mic in jack. The only thing you should be plugging into the Mic In jack is a crappy little computer mic (with a 3-conductor 1/8" plug). If ...

Re: Recording Skype - Other Person Too Quiet
Audacity isn't in a very good position to record Skype conversations.
Someone else recommended this program, I have no experience with it:

Re: Recording problem
I misread your earlier post: But with this driver any audio I play gets nasty feedback, but with the old drivers it was clear. If you're getting that noise every time you play something, then your hardware doesn't like those drivers. Are you sure those drivers were meant for your version of Windows?...

Sorry, I overlooked that.
A quick search led me to this forum:

I guess you'll also need the VST plugin enabler to run it. That's here:

Re: Problem with Recording Audio
http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=recording&i=streaming If you can't access that input even by poking around in Windows' audio software, then you only have two options: 1) Run a cable from Line Out to Line In. Many laptops don't have a Line In input, however. 2) Buy new hardware. Either the Be...
