Re: echo problem

I'm guessing you're recording streaming audio from the Stereo Mix (or equivalent) input. I'm also guessing you have "Software Playthrough" turned on in Audacity's eidt -> preferences -> audio i/o menu. That's the most common cause of this problem. If you have a different issue, you have to...

Re: FAQ

stultz,

Audacity isn't a DAW, it won't be able to work with those kinds of files. Think of Audacity as a multi-track recorder that works like a 4-track with more channels (and better editing capabilities).

It's only able to record actual audio data, not MIDI-esque KSC files.

Re: Move Label Track

dni, Apparently Audacity 1.3.4 allows you to delete space between labels on a label track. You have to make sure the space is selected either by shift-clicking once the selection is made on a different track, or by dragging the mouse cursor over the label track while making the selection. When you p...

Re: Simple MP3 recording

The easiest thing to do is run a cable from the Headphone Out on the iPod to the Line In on your computer. Set Audacity to record from the Line In input in the edit -> preferences -> audio i/o menu. You'll have to adjust the recording volume using the iPod's volume controls.

Re: audacity projects sounding quiet compared to other music

There's a lot more to making a signal sound loud than just compressing it. Ideally you should be compressing each track individually, and possibly even cutting each track into different "frequency bands" so you can compress each of those individually (aka a multi-band compressor). A very q...

Re: Changing voice to a different voice? help!

Koz, You're talking about shifting the formats in someone's "voice pattern" to a different set of formats (you'd also likely need to change the fundamental frequency, but that's trivial). You can do things like that, it isn't very hard (it's basically just a very radical EQ). But there's m...

Re: Automatic mic leveling? or Software-based commpression?

Yes, that's correct. The outboard compressor will probably save you quite a bit of editing time.

Re: New to this help with sound quality

but it is generally thought to be much better to do it with hardware prior to capture, Correction: it is certainly better to use a phono pre-amp. Some stereo receivers have phono inputs. If you don't, you'll need to buy something like this: http://www.phonopreamps.com/tc750lcpp.html The signal chai...

Re: Ballooning AIFF file size in 1.3.3

The bit depth for an exported file is set in the Export dialog box. There's a button labeled Options. Here, you should have the same bit depth setting as the file you're importing. Do you? I can't remember what it defaults to. Also, is it possible that you are working with mono files and exporting t...

One could also highlight the signal and click effects -> repeat.
