Re: Recording Bass Question/Help ...

Mixing a clean bass guitar can be tricky. Bass with a bit of grit is so much easier to mix, but if that's not the tone you want, then you'll have to do some careful mixing. Having just listened to the first 30 seconds of Symphony of Destruction, it sounds like the bass tone you're aiming for is awfu...

Re: Recording multiple inputs simultaneously

simgold, you'll have to tell us what your hardware setup is like.

Many USB mixers send only the final stereo mix to the computer. However, many FireWire mixers can send all their inputs.

I wish the companies that make USB mixers were more upfront about the limitations of the USB standard.

Re: Recording from a midi keyboard live to Audacity

Any chance you could post your solution? I'd be glad to point other people to this thread since this comes up once a month or so.

Also, if you use FireFox spell-checking should be automatic on this forum. If you don't see it, then make a new post at the "Forum Issues" forum.

Re: Any recommendations for compression quality settings?

I'm not convinced that the DACs on the iPOD are of high enough quality to benefit from re-encoding. I might be wrong though. Personally I would make a few tests and see if you can actually tell the difference. The best way to do that is to do a real A/B test. You can set one up by importing a 192 kb...

Re: Amplifying Problems

Hang on, I didn't know you had a mic plugged in. Is it a regular mic (with an XLR plug), or a computer mic (with a 3-conductor phono plug )? The UCA202 doesn't have a computer mic input. If you want to minimize the fuss and you're using a computer mic, you can just bypass the Mic In by buying a USB ...

Re: Make 8bit audio sound good?

8bit audio is tricky. I'm assuming you get to use the 44.1KHz sample rate (lucky), so you shouldn't have to worry about the frequency response. To get the best sounding 8bit audio, you need to do two things: 1) Make damn sure the audio is as clean as possible before and after converting. Use the Sou...

Re: Recording with Traktor Dj

What does your recording setup look like? Traktor is a piece of software, so you shouldn't be able to record from it unless your sound card allows you to record the speaker output, or you've got a cable running from the output to the input.

Re: Recording from a midi keyboard live to Audacity

The problem here is that you're trying to make a multi-track recording using a soft-synth and that isn't possible in most cases. Audacity can't currently read an input from a piece of software, only from a piece of hardware. So you need a piece of software that either acts as a driver (I don't know ...

Re: Progressive Latency?

From what I've gathered posting here, some sound cards work better when you record at the 48000 Hz sample rate. I think they run at that rate natively in many cases.
