Re: Slows Down Recordings

Have you ripped the mp3s yourself, or are they downloaded from somewhere?

Sounds like something funny is going on.

Re: Audacity Direct Input Recording Questions

To select the source that Audacity uses, change it in the Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu. You shouldn't need to fiddle with the Microsoft mixer at all unless the only source you can select is Microsoft Sound Mapper (let us know if that's the case). Unfortunately, there is no way to get Audaci...

Re: I think it's a bug.

No offense taken. The A/V companies do a great job of scaring people about a problem that is both more easily preventable and much less widespread than they would have you believe.

Re: an unwanted tone

There is no regular American lingo for dealing with technical stuff. Chalk that up to our poor science education, or general apathy if you like. But we'll do our best. You need to tell us what input source you have Audacity set to use. In the Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu, what is listed in ...

Re: Convert MP3 player recording (8kHz) to Audio CD?

Actually, I doubt WMP can burn that disc for you. The files you have are probably ADPCM, not regular wav files. Right click on the files and click Properties. You'll need some info from this menu to open those files. The info you need is probably in the Summary -> Advanced menu. Check out the format...

Read this:

To summarize, update your drivers and use the Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu to change sources.

Re: Distortion while recording a 2nd track

You're using the wrong input source. In the Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu, you need to select something like Line In or Mic In. You probably have it currently set to record the output of the speakers, which is useful in it's own right, but it makes it impossible to do multi-track recordings.

Re: Reducing Base In Wave File.

There are other ways to do it, but you'll probably want Effects -> Equalizer. Make sure you highlight the whole signal first. You'll need to 'draw' the kind of equalizer (EQ) curve you want to use. A typical bass cut looks something like this: *_______________________ / _________/ The * is the point...

Re: File > Export Multiple command problem

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (I've never used Export Multiple) but they're probably left over from some tags you added that got left in and overlooked. If everything else is there, go ahead and delete them. Audacity certainly doesn't need them.

Re: Can't playback MIDI

OmegaLord wrote:Can a sound converter do it neatly?
Nope, MIDI files have no audio information.

That'd be like converting sheet music into sound without using any instruments.

You'll have to use a program or piece of hardware to play the files and then record them while they're playing using Audacity.
