Re: Removing intermittent high volume sounds

What are those peaks? Is it a sound you want to hear? Do you want to adjust the volume of the "lower" sound separately from the "peaky" sound? You can try a Compressor, but I don't know how short those "peaky" segments are. You didn't include the timeline in the photo. If the peaks are too short, th...

Re: New Mixing Board... How do I--?

You've got to tell us what mixer you have before we can answer that. Some can, most can't.

Re: Records too 'hot' no matter what I do

I can't answer mac-specific questions, but could it be that you're plugged into the Mic In and not the Line In? The Mic In expects a very small signal compared to what most equipment puts out.

Re: Trouble with output format

You're right about working at higher resolutions. But a higher resolution in the Audio world means having a higher bit-depth. Not a higher sample rate. A better analogy between the visual world and the audio world would be Sample Rate <=> Color Range. Wherein a low sample rate (8KHz) would be like a...

Re: Mixer tab

No, it indicates that your soundcard drivers don't offer that option. You're probably (but not certainly) a Vista user in this case. Read this page on the wiki: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Windows_Vista_OS You'll have to change your input sources in the Edit -> Preferences -> Audio ...

Re: WAV exported to MP3 run fast (gabble)

The program you're using to play them in the "objects" is expecting a higher sample rate (almost certainly 44.1KHz). Really low bit-rate mp3s can't be created using a higher sample rate, so they're forced down to a lower one and your program is playing them too fast. I'm not sure what bit rate this ...

Re: How Do You Make A Mono Recording Into Stereo?

When you said "It appears as a "Stereo Mix" but only one waveform shows up." What exactly did you mean? Is it a stereo clip with information in only one channel, or is it a single track? If it's just a single track, skip to the second half of step 2 of my previous post. Starting with "Highlight the ...

Re: Trouble with output format

First, is there a reason you're doing the editing at a higher sample rate? Converting between sample rates will only add errors to your data, even if you go from High -> Low (bit depth is another story). If you want a copy at 96KHz for backup purposes, then that's fine, but doing the editing at a hi...

Re: Failure to record

Someone move this from 'Forum Issues' to 'Audacity 1.2.6 -> General -> Windows' please. I record an album and all looks well. OK, but does it sound ok? You can listen to it at this point, right? General rule, if you can hear it, you can save it (or export it, which is what you're actually trying to ...
