Re: Issues with recording..

There is no software Auto-Gain Control unless your soundcard has it (I've only seen it on higher end cards with a built in limiter like the Edirol FA-66). If you need to put a limiter in the signal chain, it'll have to be a hardware one before the soundcard gets involved.

Re: recording seperate tracks

I found out what was wrong, and it solved the problem for the most part, but it still can be heard really faint... Are you recording with a microphone? You need to monitor using headphones when recording with a microphone. Speakers won't cut it. You also need to turn the volume down on the headphon...

Re: Recording drifts

You've got a clock drift problem. The first thing to do is try recording at a different sample rate. That might work, but the problem is usually a hardware problem (though I can't prove that). Try some new hardware and see if the recording works right (but make sure you can return it if it doesn't h...

Re: No bottom or base in recorded playback

Vinyl playback requires equipment with the proper RIAA EQ curve applied to it. The best way to do this is to buy a phono pre-amp. If your mixer (not sure what you mean by that) has a Phono input, then it will work fine. That will give you a Line level signal with the proper EQ applied. Unfortunately...

Re: Is there an auto-stop?

Aren't these Audio Books on CD? Can't you just rip them to MP3 using Windows Media Player (or something similar)?

Re: Trash Talker

Here's a page on setting up for recording streaming audio:
http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=reco ... =streaming

Keep in mind that it depends on your hardware, so you might not be able to.

Re: running effects on multiple files

I found that the compressor effect in audacity nearly cuts the file size in half while retaining near original sound quality Uh.. no it doesn't. The Compressor has nothing to do with data compression, it compresses the Dynamics of the audio in a signal, but if exported to the same file format, it w...

Re: "screechy" noise when recording voice

Well, how do you have it setup? And are you recording with speakers running at the same time (a big no-no)?

Your problem sounds like feedback to me, you probably have the wrong Recording settings set in Audacity's Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu.

Re: M-Audio Firewire 410?

As long as Windows is recognizing it as a soundcard, it should work. Open up Audacity and go to the Edit -> Preferences -> Audio I/O menu. This is the menu you need to select your devices and # of channels. Keep in mind that you're almost certainly going to want "Software Playthrough" turned off. "P...
