Re: Using Audacity with Gearbox
You have several problems. 1) You need to make sure the TonePort is setup to use the WDM drivers, NOT the ASIO drivers. Audacity cannot deal with ASIO drivers (thanks to legal problems). This is probably why Audacity isn't working (not sure about iTunes, I don't use it). 2) You're also never going t...

Re: Volume problems when recording from vinyl
I've never seen anything like that. My first guess is that your turntable setup has a noise gate somewhere in the processing chain. Also, you shouldn't be using the mic input for that, it might be possible that your soundcard has a built in noise gate (not sure about this one). The output from your ...

Re: Basic questn: why is my sound quality so bad?
Is your file clipped? You can zoom way in on it to get a good look at the peaks of the waveform.
If that's the problem, then you need to adjust the output volume of your tape deck so the peaks in Audacity don't go past .5 (aka -6dB).

Re: How to remove the background noise
I've downloaded the file and taken a look. It's clipped pretty badly. But there might be other problems. When you listen to the cassette tape, does it sound alright? If your source material is unintelligible, you're probably not going to be able to fix it using your computer. But if it sounds ok the...

Try re-importing the mp3 file back into Audacity. Does anything show up there?

Re: -5.5db Limit?
I used to have that problem with a Shure Mic mixer that clipped at a lower level than my soundcard. So Audacity wouldn't say it was clipping, but the signal I got was clipping at -6dB or so. I also currently have this problem with an M-Audio Fasttrack. For some reason it clips at -6dB, but only if I...

Re: Vocals don't match
It's a clocking problem. The jury is still out on whether it's caused by software or hardware, but I'm leaning strongly towards hardware. As a quick fix, I've heard it said that most people can record at 48KHz (instead of the usual 44.1KHz) without many problems. That's annoying since you'll then ha...

Re: Panning automatically
How are you generating these beeps? I'd say the easiest way to do this is to generate only the "right ear" beeps and then copy / paste that track and shift it to make the "left ear" beep track. Then just pan each one hard left / right. Unless the left and right ears aren't hearin...

Re: separate the vocal from music...
I've never heard a track that sounded good after doing this. It's a bit like taking the chocolate out of a cake.
But there are some plugins that claim to be able to do it:

Re: wireless recording
This question is really vague.
What exactly do you want to record? Streaming audio from the Internet? Or phone conversations?
