Re: Which effect...?

I have no idea what it's called, but it's probably a VST effect. If that's true, then there's a good chance it won't work right with Audacity due to licensing restrictions.

Your best bet is probably to email some of the artists.

Re: sound cuts out?

Your project files are out of whack. This happens when you import audio into a project, save it, and then move or delete the original audio files. You can fix your project if you replace the original audio files. If you open the "project_name".aup file in a regular text editor, you should be able to...

Re: sound level across multiple files

But I'm no Perlman and you probably aren't either. I know there's a Yo Yo mama joke here somewhere, but I can't quite bow it. Seriously though, you can apply normalize to many tracks at once. It will analyze each track separately and adjust each individual track to make them all peak at -3dB. This ...

Re: Helicopter filter?

Yes, get some helicopter sounds and layer them on top of the original voices. You'll also want to process the voices directly in order to lower the quality to make it sound like it was recorded with a headset mic in an open-air environment. Here are a few starting points for that: http://audacitytea...

Re: MS SoundMapper

It'll work until you plug a USB device in, or use a different program that changes Window's default audio i/o settings. Basically, leaving the MS Sound Mapper set forces Audacity to ask Windows what input and output it should use. But explicitly setting them makes it much less ambiguous when problem...

Re: I can NEVER Record :(

What are you trying to record?

If you're trying to record the speaker output then read this:
http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic ... 097#p13097

The ability to record the speaker output is entirely up to the soundcard drivers. If you can't do it, it's not Audacity's fault.

What should I do?
That depends on what you're trying to do. You didn't actually tell us.

Re: how record off other programs using audacity.

You want the Stereo Mix or What U Hear inputs. Go to the edit -> preferences -> audio i/o menu to select the input and output sources. If you don't have any inputs that let you record the speaker output, then read this: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Cont...

Re: anyone using m-audio

That's probably the right input/output setting. Do you have "play other tracks while recording new one" turned ON in the audio i/o menu? As long as you have the right input and output device selected, "play other tracks..." turned ON, and "software playthrough" OFF, then you should be good to go. Ca...

What sources do you have selected for playback and recording in the edit -> preferences -> audio i/o menu?
