Re: Audacity keeps crashing out

I'm wracking my brain on this one. What does that error report say? Also, let us know what your computer is like (processor, RAM, hard drive, sound card), what OS you're using, and if your computer generally runs well. It would also be great if you could download and install Audacity 1.3.3 (they can...

Re: Need help solving this..

I'm still a bit confused. Are you monitoring the input all the time (even when Audacity isn't running)? Or are you only monitoring when Audacity is running (that is, you have "software playthrough" turned on)? You seem to be saying that your monitoring latency while Audacity is running is ...

Re: Recording ram files

If you can play the files, and your sound card gives you access to the "Stereo Mix" (or similar) recording device, then it's simply a matter of playing the file and setting Audacity to record. See this wiki page (there's a grey box right near the top with pertinent info): http://audacityte...

Re: Extracting Voice

99.99% of the time you can't. It would be like taking the chocolate out of a cake that's already been baked. If you had an exact instrumental copy of a song and a copy with vocals you could subtract the one from the other and be left with only vocals. You could also do it if all the vocals were in o...

Re: Recording problem

When i tried to record . and lick on the record buttom I don't normally laugh at typos, but this one is good. What Audacity is trying to tell you is that it can't get your sound card to start recording. This could be caused by a number of problems, most of them OS specific. I can cover the generic ...

Re: CRT or CPU Interference?

Funny story. Back in college, I used to have a small fan sitting nearby my monitor blowing stale hot dorm room air around the room. And I noticed that I would start getting motion sickness just sitting there working on my computer. After a few weeks of this, the weather calmed down and suddenly I wa...

Re: SPDIF - recording rates

I think most DATs only output at 48KHz (someone correct me if I'm wrong). You'll need to set your project to record at that rate. Note that you can change this on the fly during a project, even if you have several tracks with different sample rates. So if you've recorded everything at 44.1KHz, just ...

Re: horrible feedback kinda sound

OK, so this noise seems to be generated by your sound card while recording... You said you can't hear anything through the turntable until you record. Most cards will allow you to set the OS up to monitor (listen to) the input even when not recording. You'll have to do this through your sound card d...

Re: Need help recording from my mixer

Koz was asking if you have a three pronged plug that your computer gets it's power from, or if it just has two prongs. It really should have 3 (two slotted ones and a round one). I'm not sure if you're actually in danger or not, but it's possible. Light dimmers do normally generate electrical noise,...

Re: Export mp3 takes too long to save

One other thing that can greatly lengthen your export time is outputting to a different sample rate. I just found this out myself. I was mixing down a final copy of my new record and it took 30+ minutes to export. The whole thing is only 35:45. Each track was saved at 48KHz (expect for one of them),...
