Re: How to select file type for export?
Note that once you are in the Export dialogue you need to expand the "Browse for other folders" tree root in order to see the file type selector. This is a limitation of GTK save dialogues at the current time.

Re: how to normilize another way?
What do you mean by it doesn't fit? All normalising will do is adjust the volume, which I doubt will help you. Maybe one of them needs some reverb / echos on it, or equalisation?

Re: Can't open MP3 files.
Install libMAD and it's development headers before you configure and compile Audacity, then MP3 importing will be enabled.

Re: Exporting MP3 in Linux
You only have to set the options for bitrate once, they are then remembered. The advantage is that you can change them when you export rather than having to remember to go to the preferences beforehand to change them.

Re: using audacity on an ltsp local net
Is there an ESD wrapper script to emulate / intercept /dev/dsp you could run audacity with? Is there an alsa-lib plug-in that could be used to redirect the default alsa device (or another named one) to the network. Failing that, you don't, and find something maintained to use in place of esd.

Re: Signal to Noise ratio in this board?
A majority of audacity users seriously interested in audio (and so likely to appear on this board) aren't serious interested in the insides of their computers, and so are much less likely to install Linux. Also, most Linux distros have their own very active forms or newsgroups, which cream off much ...

Re: Crashes on Kubuntu every time
That might be something to do with the themeing experiments. Try deleting ~/.audacity and ~/.audacity-data/ and see if that helps. This is disabled in 1.3.4 when it releases, so it may stop being a problem.

Re: How to export to ogg
See that drop-down list in the bottom right (above the "Options" button)? If you click on it, there will be a choice of different formats you can export to, including Ogg.

Re: labels for multiple export from MP3 to ogg
Audacity 1.3.x does support building with Unicode-enabled versions of wxGTK, so provided you have a version of audacity built against a Unicode version of wx, it should work fine. I would assume your build qualifies based on the name, although I can't currently see a concrete way to check. As fas as...
