Re: working with 78 rpm records
First you will need a stylus that is designed for 78s - they are larger diameter than a stylus for vinyl stereo. Secondly, be aware that 78's use a different RIAA equalisation curve than that used for vinyl - in fact there were several different RIAA curves used by different manufactures of 78s. For...

Re: Audio quality Audacity=>WAV=>Audacity
Update I did some some further testing today: recorded an LP and then exported it both as 32-bit WAV and as 16-bit WAV. The 32-bit WAV was slightly larger than the Audacity files - and the 16-bit WAV was half the size, So I'm now really puzzled as to why I got the 6:1 difference the other day ........

Re: Feature differences between 1.2.5 and 1.2.6
Robert, you can have both 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine at the same time no problem. On Windows (I don't know about MAC) you can't run a 1.2 and a 1.3 at the same time - but you can run multiple 1.3s, though only one can be active at a time. Just be very aware that the data files are forwards cimpatib...

Re: Feature differences between 1.2.5 and 1.2.6
when one of the later beta versions with significant changes is announced as stable I'll try it and skip over the interim versions. Robert, I have been using 1.3.3 for some months now and it has proved eminently stable for LP transcription and cleanup - The new Repair function is invaluable. I also...

Re: Unable to open target file for writing
you got it - but do check that udacity is trying to write to the registry BEFORE you open up general access - the registry is a place of very dark magic ........

Re: Unable to open target file for writing
According to a reply from ine of the Developers recently, 1.2 tries to write the preferences to the Registry - 1.3 has the preferences file.
So if it is going to the registry it is extremely likely that your student is prohibted from wioting there.

Re: Can't seem to import in Sterio
It's probable that you have a faulty connection somewhere in the electrical chain from the cratriddge through to the PC. For a start, try swapping over the two RCA plugs and see if the recording channel swaps to to the one which was previously flat and vice-versa. If that is the case then you have a...

Re: Audio quality Audacity=>WAV=>Audacity
Many thanks for that extremely informative and insightful reply Richard - you can certainly extend your education on this board, for which I'm very grateful. With regard to my 6:1 example - the project was closed and I had done no real editing, just recorded both sides of an LP into Audacity and Sav...

And the "P" button will also pause recording - most useful - thanks for pointing that shortcut out Koz.

Re: Problem opening data file...
When you save an Audacity project as <project_name> it creates a number of things 1. a top level master project file called <project_name>.aup 2. a folder at the same filing level called <project_name_data> 3. and within the folder a sub-folder structure with lots of little .au files - segments of t...
