Re: How to permanently increase and decrease levels?
1) Import the files into udacity (WAV,AIFF, MP3, Ogg are the supported file-types). 2) select the audio - CTRL-A will select the whole project, or cick & drag with the cursor to select portions 3) use Effect>Amplify (also available are normalization and compressor and envelpe control of amplific...

Re: Will Audacity work on a stand-alone digital file?
I want to convert LP's to both Audio CD and MP3 format. I have an excellent (although old) stereo system. I don't need any preamplification. I can take the audio from either the headphone jack of the amplifier, or, perhaps, from one set of speaker connections and connect that audio to some sort of ...

Re: Will Audacity work on a stand-alone digital file?
Audacity is but one program that can perform the capture function, but as you found from searching and research, Audacity doesn't always get along so well with USB devices. They're not broken, they're unstable. On a wild guess, 30% of users will never get this to work and they will be laughed at by...

Re: No recording waves
Sounds as though you may have a duff USB line/plug or even a fault on the soundacrd on the TT. But it may just be a bad USB port - try plugging to another USB port - and don't use an ISB hub.
BTW it would help if you told us which make and model of USB TT you have.

Re: Removing click track
Assuming that you have recorded it as a separate track, and not incorporated it , just delete it by clicking on the little x in the top left hand corner of the track control box. You should in theory just be able to mute it temporarily with the track mute button - but IIRC there is an Audacity bug t...

Re: Why does Audacity clip waveforms when they are exported?
In order to control the volume for listening you should be using the slider in the contol box at the top (assuming you haven't moved it from it's default location) with the speaker icon (on the left of the mic slider). As you have discovered (and helpfully posted for others to see) using the gain sl...

Re: Recording problems
The two external USB cards that get mentioned a lot on the forum are the Behringer UCA202 and the Edirol UA-1EX. The Behringer is cheaper but the Edirol has more features. I myself use the Edirol. There is also the Griffin iMic, but I note that we get a reasonable number of posts on the forum with f...

Re: Feedback/distortion in audio: How to remove?
You are almost certainly trying to import a file type that Audacity does not support (my guess is Apple's AAC format) . Audacity Supports WAV, MP3, OGG and FLAC in 1.3. Audacity has a nasty habit of just trying to play non-supported files as a short screech, and not giving you a sensible error messa...

No sorry, I have no real recollection of which forum section it was in - or when. Try using the Search function on the top right of the web page.

Re: Sliding tracks around
Yes, you can open your 1.2 projects in 1.3 - you will get a fierce-looking warning message, but Audacityt should open the file ok. Just be aware that once you have opened and saved a project in 1.3 (or creted one in 1.3) it can never be reopened in 1.2. And you can have 1.2 and 1.3 installed on the ...
