Re: won't show waveforms while recording

I shouldn't behave like this - but a workaround would be to zoom out (use the magnifying glass icon with the minus sign) sufficiently far so that your whole planned recording will fit in a single Audacity window.

Note that you will have to start the recording before you can do the zooming.

And I'm amazed that that site makes it seem so easy to strip out the vocals - bearing in mind that we get so, so many posts on the subject ........

Re: Noise Reduction Profile

Ouch! My pacemaker jumped when I saw the price for that cartridge. I'm not sure 6 discs/12 tunes is worth $90 to me. Sometimes, depending on your cartridge, you can just buy a 78 stylus that will fit in your existing cartridge. You folks start talking equalization curves and all that and I'm lost. ...

Re: Latency, Multi-Tracking, "stable", "UNstable"...Ahh! Hel

IIRC there is better control/management of latency in the 1.3.x Beta version of Audacity. Don't worry too much about the "unstable" warning - 1.3 is now in it's later stages of development with the developers working hard to get 1.4 out the door. I have used only 1.3 for several months now...

Re: Setting mp3 Export Kbps/Quality

IMHO the mechanism for this was better in 1.2 - but the developers don't see it that way ......

Re: Distorted playback

I agree with Koz about avoiding 24-biy - I myyself record with Audacity at 44.1kHz 32-bit. I export to MP3 and also to 16-bit 44.1kHz PCM WAV.

The MP3s and the WAVs produced this way work fine on my iTunes(PC/Windows version) and my iPod. The WAVs also burn to good quality CDs.
