When I finish capturing a performance, I Export As WAV... immediately. That gives me a stable, robust sound file that I can go back to if everything else goes in the toilet.... Sorry WC I had'nt picked up your reply re. putting old photographs on C.D. they were negative in as much as there was a major problem with specks of dust on negatives and slides and finding the right scanners, all in all putting you off having a go. I wont do that though, I'll definitely be working...

Basically WAV files do not carry the necessary metadata tags (in comparison MP3 files have ID3 metadata tags). Audacity OOTB is set by default to record and work in mono.

To reset to stereo go to Edit>Preferences>Audio I/O> Channels and select 2 Stereo

Personally I've always thought the default was daft as we live in a stereo world - and have done for a long time ...
