Re: Applying 78 EQ to files recorded via RIAA pre-amps

Please don't double post. It only wastes peoples time on this forum (all of whom are volunteers) - and does nothing to get your query asked quicker.

Re: Applying 78 EQ to files recorded via RIAA pre-amps

Regarding archiving and editing 78 rpm (U.S.) records from the early 1930s through the late 1940s (Jazz, mostly) in Audacity 1.3.x: Does the RIAA EQ curve first need to be flattened in Audacity with an opposite EQ curve before an appropriate 78 curve can be applied? Or is there a way to perform thi...

Re: compatible soundcards

Some USB tuntables have gain controls to manage the signal level - does yours.

The IION ITTUSB , for example, has a little knurled knob underneath at the back.

Re: Recording from Vinyl -> Digital : Signal Strength issue.

You will probably never get there because RIAA Phono Preamplifiers typically have no adjustments, internal or otherwise. I have the only stand-alone phono preamplifier I've ever seen with a knob on the front. I think it was a publicity gimmick to get me to spend more money for essentially nothing. ...

In reply to a similar posting recently stevethefiddle advised that you can sometimes improve this by changing the tempo in smaller stages rather than all at once.

Re: Synchronize play with system clock

You can't really - Audacity is not really designed as a music player. But having said that I can think of a kludge: 1) open up the WAV file in Audacity 2) set your preferences>Audio I/O so that "Play other tracks while recording new one" is selected - and "Software Playthrough" i...

Re: 24 bit WAV

Hi, I've been trying out Click repair which doesn't support 32 bit float ....... I probably won't notice the difference once burnt to CD! I doubt too that you will notice the difference - I use ClickRepair too (and agree with you on how good it is at it's job). I capture LPs and export 16-bit PCM s...

Re: audacity doesn't open properly

I vaguely remember a similar posting a while back. IIRC the poster of that thread was advised to delete the Audacity configuration file and then restart Audacity. This will create a new config file - and note carefully that this means you will lose any Preferences settings that you previously made. ...

Re: Embarassingly easy question

You have probably almost certainly not opened an MP3 file - but insttead are trying to open a filetype that Audacity does not support (Apple AAC by any chance?). Audacaity supports WAV/AIFF, MP3, Ogg (And Flac in the Beta 1.3) - all other file tpes will need conversion to one of these prior to openi...
