I suspect it's because you are using the spectrum view in real time as you are recording?
Spectrum view takes a lot of processing power - I tend only to use it after recording to help identifly clicks/pops.
The most useful view for recording is the Waveforn (db) view.

Re: uploading from minidisc
It depends how he has it configured Steve.
Many of the ION's have a 1/8" minijack input to enable you to plug auxiliary devices (Tape, minidisc etc.) in via the ION and thus use the ION's soundcard and USB devices (hence my question to the poster above about how he was configuring).

Re: Background tone generated during recording
Absolutely - but how many stability problems have we seen on this forum with standalone Audio>USB devices? I can't recall any. The only thing that I can put it down to is the quality of the circuits/components that are used. Or possibly it could be down to the proximity of the TT motor magnet to th...

Re: No Wave Form, USB Audio Codec missing
can you try a different USB port on your PC - sometimes USB inputs are poor or NBG, somefolks find changing the port used can make it work.

Re: No Wave Form, USB Audio Codec missing
The microphone drop down menu was unresponsive and would not allow be to select Stereo Mix as required by the instructions. James James, the instructions are wrong and have been so for over two years now! When you plug in your ION, Audacity hands control over the sound services to the ION - so no i...

Re: Extremely long "save project as" times
VGC: since you only want the one hour, why aren't you using the Timed Recording facily that the developers introduced in 1.3? You can find it available from the Tracks drop-down menu. It functions well, but the UI has a few little rough edges that the developers are aware of. I use it all the time f...

Re: Background tone generated during recording
Unfortunately most Windows laptops do not have a line input, just a microphone input (and often not particularly high quality), which then often requires two extra bits of hardware in the chain - a phono pre-amp, and an external USB audio interface. While this is not particularly expensive (both of...
