Are you playing the tape on the same deck/portable that you originally dubbed onto? It is possible that the heads are out of alignment compared with the original recording. actually it doesn't always delete the .au files - they are left behind after edits/deletions to support the Undo function in Audacity.

It is most likely that you have used special characters in the label of the third track. Avoid characters like / etc. that Windows uses a special chars.
