IIRC I managed to get both meters full screen width by floating the toolbar (dragging it off the toolbar area) and then click-drag the bottom right corner outwards and downwards.

Re: Audacity temp files
Backing up data for important projects is very important, and in particular, keeping wav file backups of original recordings. If you have lots of HD space! No need to clog up your PC with backups of Audacity data and WAV files - just buy one (or better two, for a redundancy copy) external USB disc ...

Re: Recording meters
We certainly have them already in Audacity in both 1.3 and 1.2 - it is possible to move and resize the meter toolbars. I have mine stretched across the screen - half screenwidth for playback and half for record - but if you wish you can stetch them further to make both full screen. In 1.2 they alway...

Re: tape conversion
Well this Blogger http://www.sffaudio.com/2007/01/hardware-review-of-plus-deck-2-from.html also couldn't make it work with the supplied software - but did make it work with Audacity. I would try downloading the latest Beta Audacity 1.3.5 - it is fairly stable now and has much improved features. WC

Re: Audio input too loud
Let me predict the past. You're on a PC laptop and you're trying to feed it high-level vinyl performances from a pre-amp or other amplifier. Or, maybe you are using a USB turntable - in which case Audacity hands control of the sound services including the control of gain/volume to the USB device an...

Re: Noise Removal Follies
I have a Discwasher (sp?) from days of yore - would you recommend against using the cleaning solution that came with it and sticking with water only? Argo, from a brief websurf I can only see reference on the Discwasher postings and the D4+ (their fluid) to vinyl cleaning - no-one seems to mention ...

Re: LAME encoder properties
No, that's not what happens. I take an MP3 that I exported with the settings of 192 CBR - examining this MP3's file properties with Windows Explorer says that the file is 192, it doesn't say 128. Similarly if I load the MP3 file into iTunes, then iTunes declares it to be a 192 bitrate file. So I rem...

Re: Noise Removal Follies
Yup, that's a lot of 78s (and a strong shelf ....) Another tip: it is worth spending some time to ensure that each disc is as clean as possible before recording. I would avoid using alcohol-based solvents on the shellac - I would use ordinary tap water for the clean, followed by a rinse with distill...
