Are you sure that this is not your soundcard doing this? Thanks for the feedback - glad you are up and running. Just another tip about the CD-Rs: do remember that they are light sensitive (that's how the burning laser creates them in the first place) so do store them well out of direct sunlight. Select the track or tracks in your Audacity Project and use Effect > Amplify - don't be tempted to tick the box that says "allow Clipping"

We want the ability to drag the cursor back and forth along the timeline...across a particular point on the waveform...and hear the sound reproduced as a function of the direction and speed of the cursor. Audacity defaults to 32-bit floating for one of its sound file specifications. .... If you have QuickTime Pro ($30-US), you may be able to just export the show to AIFF 44100 16 bit right there and I bet the pops go away. In 1.3 they've shifted it to the Export dialog panel - click the Options button to access it.
