The other two that get mentioned favourably on the forum are the Edirol UA-1EX (which I use) and the Behringer UCA202 (whixh stevethefiddle uses). The Behringer is cheaper - the Edirol has more features.

Re: upgrading from PPC to Intel problems
The third muted track was exported too due to a bug im 1.2.x wherbey it ignores the mute on export - this is fixed in 1.3
Workaround:
1) Delete the muted track
2) Export the project
3) use the Audacity UNDO function to restore the muted track

Re: Failed Installation
No guarantee - but I would try removing your Audacity configuration file. You should find the file in C:Documents and Folders <your_user_name> Application DataAudacityaudacity.cfg Try deleting this file and then re-installing Audacity - or perhaps even try deleting the file and just restarting Audac...

Re: Three (3) Part Suggestion Thread.
I moved this thread from the "Adding Features To Audacity" section to the Audio Processing section - as I believe Steve's reply shows that Audacity 1.3.x can already do what is required - left in Audio processing for the benefit of others.
