Re: No Line-In in Vista
What hellosailor says is very true. Two USB soundcards that get recommended a lot on this forum are the Behringer UCA202 and the Edirol UA-1EX. The Behringer is cheaper, the Edirol has more features - you can check the specs of both on t'interwb and both companies are happy to deal with pre and post...

Re: Deleting Silence
Add a label where you want the track to start i.e. at the end of the silence an then use Export Multiple as MP3. I can't remeber how 1.2 works this but in Audacity 1.3.x you can tell it to ignore any recording before the first label. If 1.2 won't do this then you will just get two MP3 files - one wi...

Re: Transferring MD tracks to I-tunes library
David, one of the reasons that I purchased the Edirol UA-1EX was that it has a digital input in addition to the analog RCA. My Minidisc deck has an SPDIF output (little squarish socket with chamfered off bottom corners - normally plugged with a little removable plastic plug). From looking at the pho...

Re: Suggestions for a new cassette deck? (Really.)
The other questions that you have to ask yourself are: Q1) when you've finished the digitization (either direct to CD or via the computer) - do you want to keep the tapes and the tape deck? If no, then Q2) which of the two devices will be most easy to sell on afterwards and at what price? If the you...

Re: Rewritable CD's
Cosby,
Some CD writing software has a flag that must be set if you want to create a CD that can be added to later -if that flag is not set the disk is effectivlye locked against future changes.

Re: Suggestions for a new cassette deck? (Really.)
I don't think you'd save that much time recording direct to CD and doing the cleanup later in Audacity - versus record with cheaper deck into Audacity, clean-up if necessary and then burn to CD. So I would definitely go for the cheaper option (I also have a preference for pieces of kit that are rela...
