Re: Can't import flac

possibly this is a bug - I don't use FLAC so can't offer advice based on experience, sorry. The "Martian broadcast" is the well-kown screech that Audacity produces when it tries to play a file type it can't recognize. Possible workaround: find a software convertrer to convert from FLAC to ...

Re: Downloading and saving BBC 7 programmes

The input sources you get are entirely dependent on your soundcard and its associated device drivers. See this page in the wiki for more detail: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer . My desktop PC won't do it - my new laptop does it fine - they just v...

Re: [issue]constant jack connections

Where are the devs of Audacity? Would be nice if I got an reaction... Basically they spend most of their (spare time) developing this wonderful software for us - so thay don't get much time to visit this board very often. he board is mainly "staffed" by a handful of volunteers also giving...

It works on Playback not on record - AFAIK it doesn't actually change the amp level of the track in the project - but I could be wrong ....

Re: Software playthrough

Software Playthrough (when checked on) enables the Audacity software to play the new track while you are recording it - i.e. it sends the audio signal to whatever soundcard device you have currently designated as the audio aoutput device. You will need to uncheck it if you are recording streaming au...

Re: Importing Tracks Into Audacity

Basically yes- MP3 is a "lossy" compressed format, whereas WAV is uncompressed. So do rip as WAV, import into Audacity and do any necessary editing, then export to MP3.

Re: SAVE PROJECT question

my understanding is that when you Save and then Close the project (by closing Audacity) the the history undo trail is no longer available to you the next time you open the project. If you just Save and then continue with te project then the undo history trail remains. The best thing to do if you thi...

Re: I'm searching for a quality preamp

I use this one from ART http://www.artproaudio.com/products.asp?type=90&cat=13&id=109 plugged into my external Edrol USB soundcard (UA-1EX) - produces very good results. I note that ART also produce a similar looking gadget which is a preamp and USB soundcard combined - might be worth a look...

Re: Audacity karaoke question

manguiko: Steve has asked me to cast a second pair of eyes over this - so here goes..... I'm no expert at this sort of recording (my expertise is with LP/tape transcription and repair) - but it seems to me from looking at what you want to achieve, what you nee to try is: 1) set your Audacity so that...

Re: Numark TTUSB + Audacity + MacBook Pro laptop OS X 5.5

Qn: is your original TT better than the Numark one - and do you have a preamp with phono input (necessary for the RIAA equalizsation)? If so, then I would go for option 1 if possible. Option 2 may give tou the same problems as you have now Option 3 - as you yourself pointed out earlier this wastes s...
