Re: Cannot hear tracks while recording

try going to Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O and ensure that the radio button for Software Playthrough is checked on. Also since you have plugged in a USB device the entire audio services have been handed over to the USB device - and as you observe the usb tt has no speakers. So you wil need to go to...

Re: Audicity doesnt work at all.

Sounds like it isn't an MP3 - Audacity does this when you try to import filetypes that it doesn't recognize. Audcity can import WAV/AIFF, MP3 and Ogg files (and in 1.3 additionnally FLAC). Any other filetype must be converted to a recognisable filetype (preferrably WAV) prior to import into Audacity...

Re: pitch/speed bend

I'm no expert with this functionality - but my understanding is that you manipulate it similar to the Envelope Tool. See this page from the manual that is being developed for the 1.4 release: http://www.audacityteam.org/manual/index.php?title=Time_Tracks . I seem to remember a fairly recent response...

Re: installing both versions

Absolutely you can - just be aware that you can't actually run both at the same time.

And more importantly be awre that you can open and edit a 1.2 project in 1.2 but not the other way around. And once a 1.2 project has beem opened/edited/saved in 1.3 then it cannot be re-opened in 1.2.

Re: Edit metadata dialog

You can of course edit the metadat after export - you can do this in iTunes for example. I am not a MAC user, but in Windows we can use Windows Explorer to edit the metadata of exported music files - we can select a whole bunch and set common Properties for all - I am guessing that in MAC-land there...

Stein, thanks for the info. Have you seen this page on the wiki, it may give you more insight (I'm shooting blind as I'm not a Midi user): http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Midi See also this section from the Wiki Feature Requests: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Feature_Requ...

Re: Combining two audio files into one ...

When you save an Audacity project as <project_name> it creates a number of things 1. a top level master project file called <project_name>.aup 2. a folder at the same filing level called <project_name>_data 3. and within the folder a sub-folder structure with lots of little .au files - segments of t...

Re: Midi & MMF import & play problems

Midi is not audio - it is a set of insrucvtions on how to play audio. Audacity cannot import/read Midi - though I understand that this functionality is being considered by the developers for future incorporation into Audacity. You may want to go to the Audacity Wiki feature request list and add your...
