RGFM,
glad we got you working.
Yup, some laptops do that (fortunately mine does not) - so your solution is the right one to run it on battery power for recording. You should be fine though to revert to mains power or editing and exporting.

Re: total silence when recording and playback
It might be worth considering an external soundcard. My Edirol UA-1EX has an input for Mic and I have successfully used that on both my windows machines (Desktop with XP-HE-SP2/3 & Laprop with XP-PRO-SP3) with the Mic I used to use with my minidisc with great success on spoken word recordings. W...

Re: NO SOUND-DELL LAPTOP/KAM TURNTABLE/WINDOWS XP
Sound record and sound playback both now show above USB device. You should only have the USB device set to be the "Sound Recording" device - NOT the "Playback Device" as well. Yje Playnack device needs to be set to your PC's onboard soundcard (I can't tell you what the drop-down...

Re: NO SOUND-DELL LAPTOP/KAM TURNTABLE/WINDOWS XP
When you plug in a USB device like this your computer hands over control of all sound services to the USB device - both input and output. Since you USB TT doesn't have a set of speakers, you then don't get any soundfrom the computer (not even the normal Windows sounds). All you need to do is to get ...

Re: Filtering Old Recordings
I have been an avid user of Audacity for over two years now - mainly to digitize and "clean/repair" my vinyl (45 & 33), cassette tape and MD collection. I use Audacity for the recording and some editing - and also for breaking the records into labelled tracks for exporting as WAV files...

Re: Low level external noise when recording from usb turntab
Actually if you are picking up what is known as "rumble" and it sounds as though you are from what you describe - then it may actually be better to temporarily remove the cover. What you should do is to ensure that you have a very stable, solid, level place on which to sit the turntable (a...

See this thread: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=7396&p=29194#p29194 where Gale Andrews, one of the developeres, explains that there appears to be a problem with the latest release of LAME and a link to where you can download an earlier version of LAME. A workaround would ...

Re: The Girls' Guide to USB Turntable-to-Computer Recording
While you are recording, you can tell Audacity to make a track mark You can do this without pausing or stopping - just hit CTRL+M in Windoze or (I'm guessing here - I don't do MAC-speak) the equivalent Apple+M This will place a label marker exactly where the cursor position currently is (and normal...

Re: Voice recording; pausing and restarting on the same trac
In 1.2 you can't do this.
In 1.3 (and the upcoming 1.4) you can by hitting Shift+Record or Shift+R - I find this very useful in 1.3 when flipping over an LP to record the second side.
The Beta is actually pretty stable now - so you might want to consider moving to 1.3

Re: Sometimes silent speakers
It'll be down to the USB device - when you plug in such a USB device your computer hands over full control of sound services to your USB device - both input and output - and your USB TT has no speakers! So all you should need to do is to get Windows and Audacity to taget the sound output onto your o...
