The basic problem is tha lower-case z is used as a k/b shortcut (for find-zero-crossings) - it is a known bug in 1.2.x and is fixed in 1.3

When you play the Audacity project, or exported WAV files of the projects, do you det the same distortion? If so - then you are oversaturating the signal and getting clipping. Processing speed is definitely the issue - Audcaity would run much slower if the programmers tried to make it work off one humungous file.

jim, you will almost certainly do better by leaving Audacity to work on your PC's internal hard drive. USB disks/USB services are often not fast enough for audio recording work. Instead use the USB disk to store your production WAV and MP3 files once your projects are complete - you can then delete ...
