Re: Sudden (white) noise while recording
Most likely to be an bad or iffy USB connection - could the USB plug or the USB socket. Try gently wiggling the USB plug to ensure it is properly seated - or try a different USB socket on your computer. Or irt could be the USB connection inside your USB turntable - harder to fix. Whichever - as you ...

And if you have a label track with labels you can tab to the next label position with the tab key. This exhibits slightly odd behaviour in 1.3 - and it depends on whether you have single point labels or the selected-range labels With single point labels: if you have your cursor in the audio track it...

Re: No audio
First thing I would try would be to delete your Audacity prefences file - audacity.cfg. I know where this lives in a Windoze file structure but have no idea whee it is located in a Unix environment. This will reset ALL yourAudacity preferences - so you will need to reset those. You may wish to renam...

A couple of other features in 1.3 that you might like
1. Timed recordings - good for recording FM off-air while you are alseep or not there
2. The Repair effect - will repair up to 128 sound samples by interpolating on surrounding waveforms

As far as write instruction Books, What exactly do you mean? ChrisK What he means is - are you any good at writing manuals? One of the skills the development teeam is short of is folks to write and edit the manual for the upcoming 1.4 release. A lot of it is done - but there is still more to do - a...

Re: Generation Loss in AUP to WAV to Aup to Wav?
...using the lossless WAV files as masters probably gives me as much as using the 16-bit aup files would. Yes? Yes, and you gain a lot more flexibility. Audacity projects can prove to be bit brittle and hard to move around and backup unless you really know what you are doing. In contrast the WAVs a...

Re: No system sounds
When you plug in a USB device like this your computer hands over control of all sound services to the USB device - both input and output. Since you USB TT doesn't have a set of speakers, you then don't get any sound from the computer (not even the normal Windows sounds). All you need to do is to get...

Re: Language Setting
To change the language use: Edit>Preferences - Edit is the second command in from top left, then Preferences is the bottom selection in the drop-down list. Then you need the Interface tab, which is the third one in from the right. Language is selected from the only drop-down list in the dialogue box...

Re: Cleaning audio from vinyl
Basically you're trying to work the wrong end of this problem. You need to ensure that you get the highest quality signal delivered into Audacity for recording - adjusting the signal afterwards may provide some improvements, but is never a substitute for a good qulaity source signal. First question ...

Re: Generation Loss in AUP to WAV to Aup to Wav?
Ok my two penn'orth on this subject. As Gale suggests above, I record and edit in Audacity with Audacity set at 44.1kHz 32-bit floating (so I get the extra headroom). I export to WAVs at 44.1kHz 16-bit. I make backup copies on two separate external USB drives (very cheap these days- just bought an I...
