No, my ION's electronics (when I still had it) were absolutely fine. I onl'y abandoned it as it gave too much wow&flutter -= probably due to the very lightweigt platter.
Check that the cartridge connectors and headshell - and the USB plug are all secure and not loose.

All you need to do is to split the stereo track nto two separate tracks - command is available from a dropdown from the downward pointing black triangle at the top right of the track header. You can then select each track in turn and work on it independently. After editing is finished yoo can rejoin...

IIRC this functionality is only in 1.3 and was not available in 1.2.
In 1.3 the is a new Link Tracks tool (icon is a little chain) to assist with this process.

In 1.3 if it does crash the system will recover the files on the next start rather than having to use the recovery application? Yes, that'w what it does - it actually asks if you want to recover the project or just delete the temporary files (without recovering the project. So not only does it hand...
